The group of 198 included the longest-serving prisoner held by Israel, Said al-Atabeh, arrested in 1977 and sentenced to life for a bombing which killed one person and wounded many more.

Our member reports :

" After 31 year of imprisonment, Said al-Atabeh, 57 year-old, was liberated.
After briefly going to Ramallah, he went to his native town where thousands of Napoli waited for him.

From the checkpoint to downtown (in Al Manara), a joyful procession resounded for over an hour : honks from many taxis and ambulance sirens made cheery noise on this happy day for Palestinians.

Said al-Atabeh said he was happy about this recent decision to free 198 Palestinian prisoners but reminded that there were 10 000 prisoners still held by the Israeli authorities."

This liberation took place just a few hours before the arrival of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, coming in the Middle East for a new peace mission.

“It took 2500 hours to get the Fouga Magister restored, with the help of a former pilot. Such a machine is also quite expensive, as it uses over 600 litres of gas for each hour of flight.
